Anonymous asked: It appears many counselors are unfamiliar with treating individuals who are hoarders. What are some reliable online sources for general information about and treatment of hoarding?

Great question! Here’s a quick answer: the International OCD Foundation has a section on hoarding that contains a lot of helpful information about treatment: http://www.ocfoundation.org/hoarding/.

I would also recommend two books: The Hoarding Handbook: Help for Human Service Professionals by Christina Bratiotis, Cristina Sorrentino Schmalisch, and Gail Steketee; and Compulsive Hoarding and Acquiring: Therapist Guide by Gail Steketee and Randy Frost (who are also the co-authors of Stuff: Compulsive Hoarding and the Meaning of Things).

Hope that helps. I gadda get back to the dissertation…

Thanks for writing!
